Discernment of the Future of the Catholic Church in Ireland

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin has addressed a letter to Parish Priests and Parish Pastoral Councils calling on each parish community to organize a Parish Forum to discern about the future of the Catholic Church in Ireland.  He says: “The question now arises: where do we go forward now in the challenge of renewing the faith we carry in our own hearts and renewing the life of the Church?” and “Each parish and parish community can find its own path of reflection, with the help of the Parish Pastoral Council.  The aim is not to provide instant answers but at least to begin to set out a realistic agenda for renewal of the Church in the years to come.”  At the parish Council (this Tuesday) we will be planning a Forum to answer the Archbishop’s questions.  All suggestions and ideas are welcome.  Talk to any priest of theparish or parish council member.

Getting to the Heart of the Matter: Reading Scripture at Mass Saturday 13th October 10am-1pm in Gardiner Street Parish.  The morning begins with solid input from our speaker Angela Harding from 10.00am – 1pm – followed by coffee and then a chance to deepen a question or a text in small groups and finally discuss our findings in the big group before a simple soup & sandwiches lunch for those who wish it. What to expect: Bring fresh life to your reading at Mass and to your listeners. Practice simple warm-ups and exercises. Explore the meaning and feelings behind the text. Find your own interpretation of the text and project it with confidence.  Discover confidence in speaking and response to imagery.  Be true to the instinct of the moment, feel something in the language and make the word activeAngela Harding will use the techniques developed by Cicely Berry (Royal Shakespeare Company) to help readers bring the word alive.  A voluntary contribution is requested.
