First Sunday of Lent
Beginning Lent ~ There are plenty of ideas for actions and practices during Lent; coming up with ideas usually is not the problem. But we don’t want to do anything simply to be doing it, even if it’s a good thing. We don’t want to make a list of merciful works so that we can place a checkmark beside each one as we accomplish it. It’s good to have a plan for doing. It’s also good to have a plan for being. How do I want to be during Lent this year? More quiet and thoughtful? More open to God’s desires? Better able to sit with people who need me? More attentive to sacred readings, whether in church or in private? Do I need to be more compassionate toward my own fears and failings? Do I need to become more courageous about using the gifts God has given me?

Choose Life 2018
Choose Life 2018 is a short Newsletter circulated by the Catholic Communications Office on a weekly basis. Choose Life 2018 promotes the Church’s position on unborn human life and encourages family discussion on this important subject. The first 3 issues are available at the table at the back of the Church. We encourage our Parishioners to take time to read and reflect on the Choose Life Newsletter.
Many parishioners have remarked how difficult it is to use the confession boxes because the kneelers are too low down and nowhere to sit. In acknowledgement of this difficulty we have removed the kneelers and placed a seat in the boxes. Thank you for your feedback and hopefully the new layout will work.
We have introduced three New Candle Systems in the Church this week. They are on a Month’s trial and are in front of St Francis Xavier, The Sacred Heart and Blessed John Sullivan. Lighting a candle is a way of extending one's devotion in prayer and also a way of showing solidarity with a person on whose behalf the prayer is offered. The new system we have on trial have a number of benefits. ~ No Smoke Damage ~ Environmentally Friendly ~ No Pushing Buttons ~ Greater Capacity for all to light Candles. Your feedback on the new candles is appreciated.
Volunteer as a Minister of the Eucharist
Over the next few weeks we will be actively seeking volunteers to become Ministers of the Eucharist. While we have been always very blessed to have such dedicated people helping out in our Church we now need new volunteers. It is not a huge commitment, maybe 2 Sundays a month and/or if you were available for 1 day a week. Training and formation will be provided. If you think you could help, please let one of our Priests or a member of our team know after Mass. We are delighted that Peter Gilsenan has become coordinator for the Ministers of the Eucharist. Peter is also Sacristan at the 9.15am Mass and takes up from Jack Brogan who passed away last December. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam

Ecotip of the Week!
Only fill the electric kettle with the amount of water you need. The energy wasted in boiling a full kettle of water when it is not required is enough to run an energy saving bulb (20W=100W equivalent) for nine hours!
