MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS FOR THE 2021 WORLD DAY OF VOCATIONS

‘St Joseph and the Dream of Vocation’

Dear brothers and sisters,

8th December last, the one hundred fiftieth anniversary of the declaration of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church, marked the beginning of a special year devoted to him (cf. Decree of the Apostolic Penitentiary, 8 December 2020). For my part, I wrote the Apostolic Letter Patris Corde, whose aim was “to increase our love for this great saint”. Saint Joseph is an extraordinary figure, yet at the same time one “so close to our own human experience”. He did not do astonishing things, he had no unique charisms, nor did he appear special in the eyes of those who met him. He was not famous or even noteworthy: the Gospels do not report even a single word of his. Still, through his ordinary life, he accomplished something extraordinary in the eyes of God.

ECUMENICAL BIBLE WEEK 2021

Ecumenical Bible Week 2021 is an exciting and successful venture which is now in its eight year and will run from Pentecost Sunday (23rd May) to Trinity Sunday (30th May) 2021. Ecumenical Bible Week (EBW) is led by the Archdiocese of Dublin and the United Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough in collaboration with many other Christian traditions ranging from the Evangelical Alliance to Lutherans, Methodists, Presbyterians and support from the National Bible Society and Scripture Union.  The overall theme this year is “Unlocking Faith Today: Responding to New Realities”. This year EBW will have an opening and closing prayer event organised by Holy Trinity Rathmines on Monday 24th and St Finian’s Lutheran Church on Sunday 30th respectively. OVERSEAS VOLUNTEERS TRAINING COURSE – September 2021 – Open to all!

Viatores Christi, a faith-based development organisation has specialised in the recruitment, training and deployment of overseas volunteers since 1960. VC runs an online volunteer preparation course covering Community Development, Health, Global Awareness, Mission, etc. This is open to all!
