ASH WEDNESDAY – 22nd OF FEBRUARY.

FAST FOR LENT

Fast from hurting words … and say kind words.

Fast from sadness … and be filled with gratitude

Fast from anger … and be filled with patience.

Fast from pessimism … and be filled with hope.

Fast from worries … and have trust in God.

Fast from complaints … and contemplate simplicity,

Fast from pressures … and be prayerful.

Fast from bitterness … and fill your hearts with joy.

Fast from selfishness … and be compassionate to others,

Fast from grudges … and be reconciled.

Fast from words … and be silent so you can listen!

Irish Jesuits International has launched an appeal to help those impacted by the devastating earthquakes in Syria on Monday, 6 February 2023. You can phone

+353 1 8366509 or visit Donate Now – Irish Jesuits International (iji.ie)  to donate.

Irish Jesuit Tony O’Riordan SJ reports:

The situation here in Aleppo and Syria remains indescribably grim. Images and words cannot capture the depths of pain and misery. Words also fail to capture, how alongside this darkness, grace is also at work. I noticed with many of the JRS  Aleppo team today, that with some help and now one week on, there was light back in their eyes. One father of two young children who said last week he could never go home out of fear- has gone back to his home tonight. But the journey is long. Even those with light in their eyes once more confess that they cannot sleep at night. They have nightmares. They remain fearful and they face all the struggles that pre-existed the earthquake to make ends meet. They grieve – one of our team has lost 15 members of his family!
