Climate Justice Candle arriving Gardiner Street
In response to Pope Francis’s call to care for our common home Gardiner Street is hosting the Climate justice Candle, an initiative of the Eco-congregations of Ireland. The Candle has toured parishes and churches around the country and it arrives at Gardiner Street on the 16th of September. Masses that weekend will focus on our role as Christians in promoting care for our common home, the Earth. Last spring parish volunteers did a local clean-up and the parish offices and community are now actively re-cycling. Climate change has already created waves of refugees world-wide and current storms in the Caribbean are a reminder of this. We need to act and act fast.
The Gospel Choir Mass is back every Sunday at 7.30pm

On Thursday, 28 September 2017 at 7.30-9.30pm the 8th SpIRE Public Talk: “Finding God when Feeling Low” will be held at the Arrupe Room, Jesuit Conference Centre at Milltown Park, Sandford Rd, Speaker: Dr Annemarie Paulin-Campbell who heads up the Spirituality work of the Jesuit Institute South Africa ~ It is often not easy to sense God’s presence or to feel connected with God when we are struggling with difficult circumstances and feeling low. This is true not only as individuals, but also when as communities and organisations we are dealing with the effects of trauma, depression, or grief. How can we nurture hope and hold onto our faith in a God whose ‘mercies are not over’ in the times of pain and struggle?

Pope Francis’s prayer for September is for Parishes ~ That our parishes, animated by a missionary spirit, may be places where faith is communicated and charity is seen.
The Pope prays that the doors of our parishes are always open, not waiting for people to come in but ready to go out to meet them. He asks us to pray that parishes continue in the service of others and in the transmission of the faith. “Parishes must be in contact with homes, with people’s lives, with the life of society. They have to be houses where the door is always open so as to go forth toward others. And it is important that this going-forth follows a clear proposal of faith. The doors must be opened so that Jesus can go out with all of the joy of his message. Let us pray for our parishes, that they not be simple offices, but that animated by a missionary spirit, may be places where faith is communicated and charity is seen”.
